You Say, a message to grandparents

You say your love is unconditional,

But I see the conditions you have placed.

Don't speak too loud,

Don't laugh too much,

Don't cry, you are a boy.

Don't rage, your emotions are too much.

He wasn't the first born,

But he will probably be the last.

Yet the the way he is treated,

It's like he doesn't exist.

No spending extra time,

3 hours is the limit.

Yet for the other one,

You will drive the distance.

Everyone get's a special dinner,

Their favorite birthday sweets.

But for him it's fish, or brussel sprouts,

Or other foods you know that he won't eat.

You will spend the week

Going to parks, museums, and places.

Taking the other one on fun little vacations.

But knowing that both have the same school schedules,

The other one sits at home,

Never getting to spend time with his cousin.

I know why he is so excited,

Hoping this time things will change.

But I am the one who sees the dissapointments and frustrations.

You say your love is as deep as the ocean,

But what you don't see is your shallow expectations.
